3rd Annual John W. Hatch FaithHealth Lecture
November 27, 2018
Shaw University, Raleigh, North Carolina
The keynote will be Rev. Dr. William Barber, II
A group of curious health leaders will be hitting the road to find what’s working with America’s hospitals and the communities they serve. On Sunday, November 11, a humble Winnebago will pull away from parking lot of the American Public Health Association meeting in San Diego and head for Loma Linda—then over to Phoenix, Tucson, El Paso, Lubbock, Dallas, Little Rock, the Delta, Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, Hickory, Winston Salem, Raleigh, and finally Wilmington and the Atlantic Ocean.
The Road Trip will culminate on November 27 in Raleigh, NC, at the John Hatch Lecture Series keynoted by Dr. William Barber whose preaching and organizing genius was recognized this month by the McArthur Foundation. Dr. Barber is President and Senior Lecturer of Repairers of the Breach, Architect of the Moral Monday Movement in North Carolina, Co-chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, Pastor of Greenleaf Christian Church, and President Emeritus of the NC NAACP.
The day will again engage faith and health leaders in dynamic and thought provoking dialogue reflective of the strength of faithhealth intersections in improving population health and building stronger communities.
The Division of FaithHealth Ministries at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Shaw University Divinity School invites all to the Third Annual John W. Hatch FaithHealth Lecture Series. The Series, named as a commemoration of the pioneering work of Dr. John Hatch in the areas of faith, health, and community organization, seeks to:
- Provide a forum for participants to engage in diverse streams of intellectual knowledge gained through individuals, communities and institutions that are relevant to the fields of faith and health.
- Create opportunities for open dialogue, story sharing, and innovation between faith and health communities towards the goal of improved quality of life in the communities/populations served.
- Build stronger communities vested in bridging the space between the healing worlds of faith and health.
Another special feature will include a dialogue between Dr. John Hatch, William Rand Kenan Jr. Professor Emeritus, Health Behavior and Health Education, University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health and Dr. Gerald Winslow, Director of the Center for Christian Bioethics, School of Religion, Loma Linda University (LLU) and Founder of the LLU Institute for Health Policy and Leadership.
