Rev. Enrique Catana Ramiro received the 2018 Martin Luther King, Jr., Young Dreamers Award. The award ceremony took place at City Hall in Winston-Salem on January 16. The annual award from the the City Council and the Human Relations Commission recognizes one male and female outstanding young adult leader who “has produced a meaningful result in community inclusiveness and race relations.” The other honoree was Magalie Yacinthe, owner of Yacinthe Event Services.
“I was delighted that city leaders recognized the hard work and initiative that Enrique devotes to outreach and engagement both within and outside the Hispanic/Latino community,” says Francis Rivers Meza, a Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
“He consistently goes the extra mile in caring for people who seek assistance and support not only from the FaithHealth movement but from his church and community,” Rivers added. “Enrique has chosen to devote his time and abundant talent to the poor, marginalized and sick among us. He is an inspiration.”
In honoring Ramiro, the commission cited his work to “uplift the marginalized in our community” and his dedication to “walking along side individuals that are experiencing a health crisis.”
The Human Relations Commission established the Young Dreamers Award in 2009 to encourage young adults to participate in philanthropic, altruistic community involvement that is in the spirit of how Martin Luther King Jr. lived and encouraged others to live.
