An article in the Gaston Gazette highlights the recent efforts of Charlotte Lynch (left) and Lisa Marisiddaiah (right) as they reach out to a neighbor. Eighty-four-year-old Roger Minges suffers from Parkinson’s disease, and when his wife, and primary caretaker, suffered a stroke the two stepped into the vacuum to help him out.
They connected Minges with meals on wheels for week days and come bearing food on weekends. And that help, says the article is certainly important:
Minges appreciates Lynch’s support and the food, but most of all, her companionship. “I think it’s important for someone who is helping someone else to make them feel that it’s a pleasure,” he said. “That they don’t mind doing it.”
Minges’ need for short-term help with meals and transportation is not an uncommon plight. “Things that many of us take for granted become serious challenges for someone who does not have a support system,” Marisiddaiah said.
Lisa Marisiddaiah is Coordinator of Faith and Health Ministry at CaroMont Health in Gastonia. She is also a FaithHealth Fellow. She and others are launching Faith-Health Gaston.
