The Division of FaithHealth Ministries at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center invites you to the First Annual John Hatch FaithHealth Lecture Series. The series is named as a commemoration of the pioneering work of Dr. John Hatch in the areas of faith, health and community organization.
A light luncheon will be served immediately following the lecture. Our overall goals for this series include:
- Provide a forum for participants to engage in diverse streams of intellectual knowledge gained through individuals, communities and institutions that are relevant to the fields of faith and health.
- Create opportunities for open dialogue, story sharing, and innovation between faith and health communities towards the goal of improved quality of life in the communities/populations served.
- Build stronger communities vested in bridging the space between the healing worlds of faith and health.
Special guests joining us in this conversation include our guests of honor:
- Dr. John Hatch — William Rand Kenan Jr. Professor Emeritus, Department of Health Behavior and Health Education University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health; and Co-Founder, First Health and Human Services Program, General Baptist State Convention of NC
- Dr. Jack Geiger — Arthur C. Logan Professor Emeritus, Community Medicine, City University of New York Medical School; and Medical Director/Founder, First Community Health Center in United States
- Dr. Clifford Jones, Sr. — Senior Pastor, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC; and Past President, General Baptist State Convention of NC, Inc.
During this forum, we will take a critical look at historic examples bridging faith and health that have been successfully crossed in a sustained and meaningful way for all stakeholders. This forum will also explore ways in which the current policy environment (especially governmental health policy) offers a context for further synthesis of critical components of the Hatch Legacy models (for example, partnership between a public university and major religious denominations and incorporation of social determinants/drivers of health in the nation’s first comprehensive community health center).
Please RSVP to Dawn Hall at [email protected] by November 8, 2016 to reserve your seat. Please forward this information to anyone else you feel would benefit from attending this lecture series and encourage them to register.
This event is sponsored by Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, FaithHealthNC and Wake Forest School of Medicine Public Health Sciences.
