Session Summary: While PTSD has been in the national consciousness for several decades, in recent years the term “moral injury” has begun to appear in peer-reviewed journals among the behavioral sciences. How might mental health and spiritual care providers collaborate in providing care for what might be perceived a “mental health” issue on one hand, and a “spiritual injury” on the other? This presentation will review the history of the development of the diagnosis of PTSD, the emerging construct of “moral injury,” and the ways that fear, guilt, and shame have been excluded and/or included in each.
