New to the FaithHealthNC team
Enrique Catana is a native of Mexico City but has lived in Winston-Salem for 16 years. He recently became the fifth member of the Supporters of Health. Enrique is bilingual but will work closely with the FaithHealth team to strength ties with and service to the Hispanic/Latino community. Already he has helped connect medical center and community resources with a young man in need of a kidney transplant, a connection that would have been hard if not impossible to imagine without Enrique.
Maria Jones has joined as Chaplain for Staff Support. Jones will provide support and education for medical staff about issues of moral distress and compassion fatigue. She will also provide intake and counseling support for those who apply for the Employee Emergency Financial Fund and respond to patient care units and medical center departments who are facing critical challenges related to employee loss or demanding work stressors.
Long-tenured Wake Forest Baptist Health employee and pastor of New Light Baptist Church in Winston–Salem, Rev. Sam Hickerson now serves as a Baptist HealthCare Liaison working in the East Winston-Salem vicinity helping establish the FaithHealth movement among area congregations and organizations. Working with other partners, Sam is also working on launching a new, free health clinic in East Winston to serve some of the most vulnerable area residents.
