In an effort to stem the rising tide of suicide in the area, CareNet counseling is bringing Soul Shop to our community. Soul Shop is a suicide prevention training program and includes a daylong training session specially designed to train church leaders, clergy, program staff, lay ministers, office staff and faith-based therapists to detect the signs of someone contemplating suicide and possibly save their life. Additionally, Soul Shop trains church leaders how to minister to surviving family members after a suicide.

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the incidence and impact of suicidal desperation on the adults and youth in their faith communities.
  • Demonstrate a simple, conversational method for saving the life of someone considering suicide.
  • Address suicidal desperation as a regular aspect of their life and work.
  • Engage leaders in an ongoing, strategic effort to shift the way that faith communities deal with suicide.

Who Should Participate: Specially for clergy, church staff, counselors and lay ministers.

Jointly provided by: CareNet Counseling, an af liate of Wake Forest Baptist Health, and Northwest Area Health Education Center (AHEC), a program of Wake Forest School of Medicine and a part of the NC AHEC system.
